Trip Rules:
(Be advised: these are still under construction and subject to periodic revision.  But such as they currently exist… here they are!)

General Rules:
  1. This is a school sponsored trip…AND more importantly, because we will be representing Seguin and Seguin High School to the people we will meet as we travel, I must insist that all S.I.S.D rules regulating dress and behavior be in force for the duration of the trip.  Students; dress and behave accordingly. Do not wear clothing which would be unacceptable at school.  Do not behave in a way that is unacceptable or bothersome to others.  If there are any questions, the S.I.S.D Student Handbook is available online at:
  2. http://www.seguin.k12.tx.us/
  3. We will all be traveling together… for rather lengthy periods of time. Please be mindful of your sponsors and your fellow students, rude, abusive or obnoxious music will not be tolerated.  Students: What you choose to insert into your heads is your own business… I am NOT likely to censure that.  However, what I am obligated to ‘endure’ is my business. If I choose NOT to listen to it… please respect that!  Bring your ear buds or your headset.  Quiet times will most likely be instituted in respect to other campers and the sanity of your sponsors.  Please respect these quiet periods even if they might occur at times which seem unreasonable to you!
  4. I guess I MUST say this.  Drugs, alcohol or abuse of any substance for the purpose of altering ones state of mind will NOT be tolerated in any form.  Students violating this rule will be sent home immediately via any available means of public transportation.  IE:  Bus Line, Amtrak or even a smelly east bound cattle trailer.  (This cost will be redeemable to S.I.S.D. by the student's parents upon our return.) Do NOT make me do this… I’d rather not… but I will!
  5. Students… please bear in mind this trip represents not only your vacation… but also the spring break of both myself, Mr Burns and Ms. Kerfoot.  While we are all glad to have this opportunity to take you to Big Bend and we sincerely hope you have fun, your behavior on this adventure will determine whether future trips of this kind will ever be possible.  This is a great privilege… there are administrators and school board members here in Seguin watching to see what happens on this trip… be on your best behavior to insure other students are extended this same privilege in years to come!
  6. Room Service on this adventure will be non-existent; You will be expected to contribute to the “well being” and “general good” of the entire group… whether you feel this might be reasonable or not!
  • You WILL be expected to share and be good natured with others in the group.  Pouting or unnecessary “drama” will not be tolerated! Whining will not be tolerated!  Grow up!
  • You WILL be expected to help with meals and wash dishes.  Roll up your sleeves and contribute! Those who volunteer get to choose their “jobs.”  Left-over jobs will be assigned to whoever isn’t working!
  • You WILL be required to keep you own possessions and living area neat and tidy.  Keep up with your own stuff!
  • You WILL be asked to aid in the set up and take down of tents and camping equipment which may not be your own.  We all work together until we are ALL finished!
  • You WILL be expected to help in loading and unloading the van and/or trailer.  When it’s time to go… get your stuff together and let’s go!
  • You WILL, more than likely, be expected to sort, wash and fold your own clothing in conjunction with others. Welcome to the real world!
  • You WILL be expected to be responsible and accountable to other members of our party for your behavior and character.  No lying, cheating or stealing… be straight and square with everyone or stay home!
  • You WILL most certainly be assigned various other reasonable duties as required by the general good and well being of the entire group.  I cannot foresee every situation… but I can manage a group pretty well.  I can assure you… someone will have to police the area and take out the garbage… every night!  That person will not always be me!
If, for any reason, you feel any of the above general rules are unreasonable or unacceptable… do us all a favor… STAY HOME!  Better to have you stay home than to “carry you” for the whole trip.  This is “our” trip… all of us… together.  No free-loaders allowed!  It’s a working trip… but it’s going to be something you remember for the rest of your life!  It’s your choice whether those will be good memories or not.  If you're interested in good memories… welcome aboard and let’s go!

Specific Rules:
  1. Please, no open toes shoes or sandals to be worn on the trip.  Big Bend is NOT the place for flip flops.
  2. All luggage must be limited to one sports type duffel approximating 12 X 12 X 30 inches and one “carry on” daypack.  We are very limited on space, pack tightly.
  3. (More specific rules forthcoming!)
